RECEIVING AND DISPATCHING CALLS OF A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL NATURE
May 22-23, 2008
Sexual assault and domestic violence calls are often difficult ones for many communication center personnel to handle both operationally and emotionally in an efficient manner. This is a new program which is designed to examine how such calls for immediate service might best be handled by call-takers and dispatchers. Topics to be covered during this program include: (1) being prepared mentally and emotionally for calls of this nature; (2) importance of not becoming emotionally involved; (3) calming the caller; (4) gathering accurate information; (5) conversing with juvenile victims; (6) paying attention to responder safety; and (7) post-dispatch instructions; (8) call center resources; (9) basic crisis intervention skills; (10) critiques of high profile sexual assault and domestic violence calls for service. Participants are requested to bring to the class their agency policies on processing both sexual assault and domestic violence calls as well as victim services in their area. Seminar will be conducted May 22-23, 2008 at the Gulfport Neighborhood Center, 1617 49th Street South in Gulfport, Florida. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each program day.

FEE:
$295 per person. Agencies enrolling three or more personnel in this program are entitled to claim a 15% team discount.
