ADVANCED TOPICS IN CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION: BODY FLUIDS AND TRACE EVIDENCE ELEMENTS
May 12-13, 2008
This is a two-day program with the first day devoted to body fluids and the second to trace evidence elements. The first program consider types of body fluids and how the investigator might collect and analyse these. Topics to be covered during this session include: (1) scientific basis of body fluid examination; (2) blood and bloodstains and their collection; (3) seminal stains; and (4) other types of fluids such as saliva, urine, and fecal matter. The second day provides discussion on such trace evidence elements as hair, textile fibers, paint chips, glass fragments, and gunshot residue particles. Topics in this segment include: (1) trace evidence associated with clothing; (2) recovery of the clothing of the victim; (3) cloth fragments and impressions; (4) threads; (5) fibers; (6)hair; (7) soils, rocks, and minerals; and debris.INSTRUCTOR: Michael Gilbert, Crime Scene Investigator, Montgomery County (PA) District Attorney's Office, Norristown, Pennsylvania. NOTE: ENROLLMENT IS FOR BOTH CLASSES AND NOT FOR INDIVIDUAL ONES.
