RECEIVING AND DISPATCHING CALLS INVOLVING SEXUAL ASSAULT OR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: A SEMINAR FOR COMMUNICATION CENTER PERSONNEL
April 10-11, 2008
Sexual assault and domestic violence calls are often difficult ones for many communication center personnel to handle both operationally and emotionally in an efficient manner. This is a new program which is designed to examine how such calls for immediate service might best be handled by call-takers and dispatchers. Topics to be covered during this program include: (1) being prepared mentally and emotionally for calls of this nature; (2) importance of not becoming emotionally involved; (3) calming the caller; (4) gathering accurate information; (5) conversing with juvenile victims; (6) paying attention to responder safety; and (7) post-dispatch instructions; (8) call center resources; (9) basic crisis intervention skills; (10) critiques of high profile sexual assault and domestic violence calls for service. Participants are requested to bring to the class their agency policies on processing both sexual assault and domestic violence calls as well as victim services in their area. Program will be conducted April 10-11, 2008 at the Sebastian Police Department, 1201 Main Street in Sebastian, Florida. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

$295 per person. Agencies that enroll three or more personnel may claim a 15% team discount..
