SPANISH IMMERSION SEMINAR
August 20-24, 2007
This intensive five-day seminar is designed for law enforcement, corrections, probation/parole, and other individuals within the criminal justice system who regularly come into contact with persons of a Hispanic background and who need basic and fragmentary communication skills to exchange information. The emphasis of the program will be on basic interactive conversation, vocabulary development, and basic sentence construction which will be complemented by hands-on practical speaking and listening exercises designed to improve participants communicative competence in the language. Instructors will speak both English and Spanish in the sentence construction and grammatical instruction portions, but only in Spanish in the conversational phases of the seminar to ensure that participants have ample opportunity to hear the language spoken and to identify certain objects with the words or phrases presented. Emphasis on communication in stressful and/or emergency situation will be interwoven throughout the program.

DATE/LOCATION/TIME: Seminar will be conducted August 20-24, 2007 at the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Police Institute on the campus of Nova Southeastern University, 8585 South West 124 Avenue in Miami, Florida. Specific directions will be provided on confirmation letter. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

FEE: $595 per person.
