RECRUITING, TRAINING AND RETAINING COMMUNICATION CENTER PERSONNEL

The hiring and training program for many departments have been in the past a "learn-as-you-go" process. Now, because of increasing responsibilities of the telecommunicator, advances in technology, and increasing litigation, it has become necessary to develop a systematic approach to hiring and training personnel with emphasis on consistency and quality. This seminar is directed toward the communication center administrative personnel. Its aim is to provide information which might readily be utilized to increase the hiring of qualified employees, reduce the rate of dropouts and turnovers, and promote insulation against litigation. Topics to be covered include: (1) finding and actively recruiting good employees; (2) your role in the hiring process; (3) conducting an interview; (4) listening skills; (5) keeping good employees when funding is lacking; (6) rewarding good employees; (7) reprimanding employees in a positive manner; (8) developing an airtight discipline process; (9) planning for training; (10) effective training procedures; and (11) terminating the unproductive employee. INSTRUCTOR: Erica Bell Reuter, Communication Center Training Consultant, Boca Raton, Florida.

DATE/LOCATION/TIME: Seminar will be conducted on April 21-22, 2008 at the Hallandale Beach Police Department, 400 South Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, Florida. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

FEE: $295 per person. Agencies enrolling three or more in this program are entitled to claim a 15% team discount.
