BASIC
CALL-TAKER/DISPATCHER TECHNIQUES AND PROCEDURES
September 20-21, 2012
This
program will assist the participant in focusing on critical areas and problems associated
with communication center call-taking and dispatching. Effort will be spent looking
at the specific communication center environment and discussing the special skills
and techniques required of personnel engaged in these functions and fulfillment of
their duties. Special skills and techniques will be discussed along with the necessary
attributes for communication center personnel. By the conclusion of the program,
participants should have a better understanding of (1) role of communications in
public safety; (2) communication center environment: staffing, stress, and personal
rewards; (3) ethics and integrity in communications; (4) call-taker roles and responsibilities--accountability
to community and department; (5) telephone techniques and CAD entries; (6) challenges
of language barriers including foreign, slang, and cultural differences; (7) dispatcher
roles and responsibilities in terms of community needs and officer safety; (8) keys
to effective communication for the radio operator; (9) radio language: code and professional
demeanor; (10) effective pre-arrival instructions; and (11) liability issues for
the call-taker and radio operator. INSTRUCTOR: Miles Turner, Communication
Center Consultant, Richmond, Virginia.
This program has been approved by
the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission for In-Service Hours for
Police and Corrections Personnel for 13 in-service hours. The approval number is
P13500.
DATE/LOCATION/TIME: Seminar will be conducted September 20-21,
2012 at the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Headquarters, 12751 Layhill Road
in Silver Spring, Maryland.. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each
day.
FEE: $295 per person.

two personnel at the standard $295 per person rate and the third staff member is
enrolled at half-price ($147.50)

person rate and the fourth staff member is enrolled free of tuition
